Meet Your Coach

Luke Cancilla, PT, DPT

Running has been a constant in my life since I first joined the cross country team in 5th grade. I went on to run in high school and continued at Division 3 John Carroll University where I started out as a middle distance runner and gradually progressed up to the 10k by the end of my collegiate career. Today I focus my racing on marathon and half-marathons and you can find me running throughout Arlington, VA and Washington, DC on any given day.

Running has always been a personal pursuit built on consistency, a drive to improve, and a love to be outside putting one foot in front of the other. My current PR’s include: 2:37.31 (Marathon), 1:14.26 (HM), 55:04 (10M), 33:39 (10K), 26:32 (8k), 16:15 (5k)

Alongside my own training, I’ve spent years with runners throughout the DMV as a physical therapist specializing in running-related injuries. A large part of my career involves helping runners get back to training following injury, guiding them through setbacks in their training, and preparing them for racing. Over time I’ve realized that many of those injuries and frustrations could have been avoided with better structure, better progression, and a more diligent approach to training.

That realization is what led to coaching. I wanted to go beyond helping runners recover and start helping them train in a way that allows them to stay healthy, build consistency, and perform at a higher level. Point to Point Performance was built to bring that approach to runners who are seeking better guidance, structure, and a clear long-term path forward.

I believe good training is science-driven and individualized to every runner, while still allowing space for adaptability. Training should be structured and intentional, but it should also be something that brings you joy. Chasing after a goal, whether it’s a new PR, a Boston Qualifier, or an OTQ, should feel both challenging and rewarding. Finding that balance is where my best progress has been made.

I work primarily with runners who are serious about improving and want a smarter, more structured approach to training so that it works for them, not against them. Runners who value consistency and adaptability, want clarity in their training, and are willing to put in the work to reach their goals.

I’m not just a running coach, I’m a teammate. I know what it’s like to balance a full work schedule, family life, and time with friends while training with a purpose towards a big long-term goal. I understand and love the process. Not just from a coaching perspective but from living it.

Coaching Philosophy

At Point to Point Performance, training is built to work for you and your life. My goal is to provide a smarter, more intentional approach to training.

Too often I see runners trying to grind through training plans that are either leading them to frequent injury, burnout, or disappointing results. Most runners don’t struggle from a lack of effort or motivation. They struggle from training that isn’t tailored to their unique goals and needs. Training shouldn’t feel like guesswork. It should be purposeful, progressive, and built for you. At Point to Point Performance, coaching is designed to help you train with clarity and confidence, so you know every run has a reason and every phase of training is building you to your goals.

Point to Point Performance Coaching

  • No two runners are the same and training should reflect that. Your training will be built for your goals, your running history, your strengths and limitations, and your lifestyle.

At the beginning of our partnership, we’ll spend time getting to know you and building a program that fits in your life. We’ll continue to check-in and adjust through progress monitoring, check-in calls, and consistent feedback.

  • Every run has a purpose. Workouts, long runs, and easy days all play a specific role. From base building to race preparation, your plan is structured with a clear direction towards your goals so you’re not just working hard, you're working towards something meaningful.

  • The best races don’t come from one workout or long run. They come from stacking microcycles throughout your training and from stacking training cycles together. Your training is designed and timed to be sustainable so you can build momentum for the long-term and peak at the right time.

Training is provided on a bi-weekly cadence for a minimum of 16 weeks to ensure your training is tailored to your long-term goals, not limited to quick results.

  • Real life doesn’t stop for training. To make your training work for you, it’s important as a coach and an athlete to be flexible enough to adjust when needed without losing direction.
